Okay, it's an investment.

I have been dutifully chastised by a few of my friends. I'm not losing money, I'm making an investment.

I was reminded by a gentleman in one of my Facebook groups that being an author is not about writing, it's a business. If you want your book(s) to be successful you have to treat it like a business.

I never grew up saying I wanted to be a businessman (a business person for those pc people out there). I wanted to be a veterinarian until I saw them operating on a cow. I went into music because it was the path of least resistance and I was fairly good at it. Then I tried photography because it was fun.

Now I am writing. It started out as a gift for the family then exploded into so many Jazzy's books. When I compared my little Jazzy's books to other books by new authors, I felt I didn't do enough, so I started writing in earnest.

Nowhere in my desires do I say I want to run a business... but I guess that's where I'm going. I ran my photography studio as a business but hated tax time and it took the fun out of taking pictures.

Grrrrr... I'm a businesswoman! I need to start thinking that way.
