So many people are posting about how they can't wait for 2020 to be over. I can't help but be cynical. It's just numbers, a set of dates through which we age.
Certainly COVID-19 has been horrible. People have died or have had their health affected for life because of it. I am fortunate that I have not had to dance with that virus...yet. I am sorry for all those who have experienced loss because of COVID.
The transition from 2020 to 2021 means nothing to me. I wish a switch would be thrown the minute 2021 arrives, but nothing will be different. I hope that my troubles from losing work, from fear and from laziness will all go away, but can flipping a page make that happen? So why the hoopla? Why the good riddance to a year, that though challenging, I lived through?
Do you really think 2021 will be much different? Do you think all the plans, the resolutions, that you make will last? Do you know that it will be better?
Rather than look at 2020 as a year to forget, do you think you might have learned something that you can bring forward with you into your future?
Do you see the future, leaving all things past in your memory? Or do you regret the past, spending all your future living in what might have been?
Do you even care?
