My favorite ghost stories.

Casper - Casper is a friendly ghost, sweet and personable. He is criticized by his three uncles for being so nice.

I love Casper. He embodies all the elements of kindness and doesn’t even have a body.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - Lucy discovers the ghost of the former owner, a sea captain Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison). She gathers the courage to stand up to him and they become friends. Faced with dwindling means of support, Lucy agrees to the Captain's challenge to write his colorful life story. (I’d love a ghost to dictate their story to me.)

I loved watching this on TV. Who wouldn’t want a ghost looking after them. He kept her from being lonely.

The Canterville Ghost - An American family moves into a haunted mansion in England. Their boys are mean to the ghost. The ghost falls victim to tripwires, toy peashooters, butter slides and falling buckets of water. Their teenage daughter stands up to the ghost and figures out what she needs to do to help him move on.

I always wondered if I would have been scared or acted as bravely as the boys and the teenager did in this story. But either way, it’s fun to go to a foreign land, explore an old house, and meet a handsome neighbor.

Just Like Heaven – David rents an apartment that has a female ghost. She doesn’t think she’s dead. Is she? Elizabeth is in a coma, her spirit and David work to reunite her spirit with her body before her sister takes her off of life support. But Elizabeth signed DNR forms etc. so her sister believes she's following Elizabeth's wishes by considering pulling the plug. But, Elizabeth now doesn't want to be taken off life support because there is still a chance to save her life, but can't tell her sister that since she's a spirit that only David can hear. It’s a funny movie.

I saw this on TV. I haven’t read the book, but goodness, I love the premise. And all the ghosts I like are “good” ghosts. I don’t seem to be able to watch anything too scary.

Do you see a theme here? I love ghosts, as long as they are good, romantic, kind, or can be redeemed in some way.

What are your favorite ghost stories and why?
